Dog
Ears and Paws has been training dogs to assist their human companions
for 18 years. We train many types of assistance dogs including dogs
that provide emotional support. Dogs are also trained for pet therapy
programs to be used by clinicians or in nursing homes and hospices.
We also provide classes to help the people that are training their
own dogs to assist them or a family member or friend.
Clients accepted into our programs may pick the type, sex and color
of dog they desire for their assistance dog. Many of our dogs are
adopted from shelters whenever possible.
We encourage all clients to participate in the training of their
dog. When this is not possible a foster family is located.
When necessary we will aid the recipient with the cost of food,
veterinary care and grooming.
All training methods are natural, holistic and motivational. Two
years of training is required and the cost averages $14,000.
Dog Ears and Paws raises funds by providing agility and obedience
training for the public. We also provide the community with fact
filled educational seminars. Grants and gifts provide the rest of
our funds.
Applications for assistance and therapy dogs can be obtained from
Dog Ears and Paws by calling or dropping us an email.
There is no charge for an assistance dog. Clinicians wanting to
incorporate a dog into their practice may be asked for a donation.
All trainers are members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers
and utilize only motivational techniques.
